"If young people would taste the grace of God just once, it would take a crane to pull them out of His church."

-Saint Paisios

Greetings to all of you, your families, and the faithful of your parishes! The Diocese of New York & New Jersey’s Department of Youth Ministry has as its singular goal to encourage the young people of our diocesan parishes to fully participate in the life of the Church through worship, witness, service, and fellowship.  The ministry encompasses a broad range of activities and age groups. It is also committed to help train youth leaders, organize events, provide consultation for youth leaders and pastors across the diocese, and oversee future programs for our diocesan young people.

Our diocese sponsors three retreats per year, one for Altar Servers of all ages at the beginning of the new year, one for Teens in grades 7-12 during the Great Fast, and one for Young Women in grades 7-12 in November. Each weekend program is tailored to the interests of participants, and we invite guest speakers who specialize in the topics that our participants suggest to us at the end of each retreat. We truly design our events around what THEY want to learn. Additionally, our young people gather throughout the year on a more local level, participating in smaller events to encourage continued fellowship. Our Department also places an emphasis on serving our local communities through service events. Finally, our diocese also hosts an annual Orthodox Youth Day each August for all children, teens, and young adults in elementary school through college!

Through these activities, it is our hope that their faith will be strengthened, that they will make new friendships, that they will bond over their commonalities, have fun, and learn something new.

To be put on an email list to be kept up to date on future youth activities, please submit your information here.

May God continue to bless and guide you, your families, and the faithful of your parishes!
